How can a Donor save time and money by making donations to  ICAN?
  • Throughout the year Canadian Corporations are inundated with requests for donations of all types. These many requests take up a lot of valuable time. Investigation is required into each requesting organization. Paperwork is required for each task, inlcuding follow-up.
  • ICAN  takes on the responsibility of due diligence for all donating corporations. As a leader in the field of charities, it is our commitment to ensure that all association members follow the stringent guidelines that protect both the Donor and the final recipient. We streamline the process for both.
How can we eliminate the costs of transferring our donated product to the Charity?
  • We have the availability of large and small vehicles allowing  ICAN to collect product quickly and efficiently.
  • We will safely dispose of any product that does not meet our quality standards without cost to you.
How is the donated product handled?
  • We ensure that all donated products are handled and stored according to the specifications of each item. This means that all government requirements for storage, safety and handling are meticulously maintained. Accurate inventory by weight and unit is performed on all donations received.
  • Reports are available to Donors on how their donations are distributed should they require them.
  • Any market sensitive products are repackaged or relabeled to protect the integrity of the brand.
  • All close coded and date sensitive products are repackaged first for immediate distribution.
  • All donated products are checked for damages and for quality of contents. We assume responsibility for cleaning and packaging, ensuring that the donation being distributed meets our high standard of quality and reflects the Donor's reputation.
  • We recognize the amount of time and money that corporations spend each year to manufacture and promote their products.
  • We donate and exchange with international food banks and charities.
  • Good relations with our Donors are kept by our never allowing market sensitive brands to find their way to the secondary and resale market, including repacking and relabeling if required.
  Do we ever purchase product?
Yes. Through various fundraising and sponsorship programs we are able to purchase product not normally available to charities, but that is made available to liquidators to ensure cash return to the corporation. We appreciate being given an opportunity to bid on these products.
What rights do you have as Donors?
  • All Donors (individuals, corporations, and foundations) are entitled to receive an official receipt for income tax purposes for the amount of the donation. Donors of non-monetary eligible gifts (or gifts-in-kind) are entitled to receive an official receipt that reflects the fair market value of the gift.
  • Donors and prospective Donors are entitled to the Charity's registration number, to the names of the members of the charity's governing board, and to appropriate reports and documents upon request.
  • Donors' requests to remain anonymous will be respected.
  • The privacy of Donors will be respected - Any Donor records that are maintained by the Charity will be kept confidential to the greatest extent possible. Donors have the right to see their own donor record, and to challenge its' accuracy.
  • Donors and prospective Donors will be treated with respect. Every effort will be made to honour requests to limit the frequency of solicitations, and to have requests for information fulfilled in timely fashion.
  • All restricted or designated donations will be used for the purposes for which they were given. If necessary, alternate uses will be discussed with the Donor or the Donor's legal designate.
  • No more will be spent on administration and fundraising than is required to ensure effective management and resource development.
